Electric

Acrylic on Canvas (36” x 24”)

Kelley Bieringer – James Workman Middle School, Art

$400

“I enjoy teaching because it's a great way to have a positive impact on and shape a lot of young minds.  Artists like Lucas Samaras exploring our identity with ourselves and the different sides of our personalities, Georgia O'Keefe and her large close-up of beautifully colored natural objects, and Vincent Van Gogh's use of color and brush stroke to evoke emotions in viewers are some of my strongest influences.

“Focusing on color and shape's ability to portray emotions, this painting is limited to straight lines, two colors and white. Powerful images cannot be held back by a limited palate.”

Tulips 1

Photograph (8” x 10”)

Denai Brower– Cathedral City High School, Career Guidance Specialist

$80

“I am a graduate of the California State University at Fullerton, with a Bachelors of Arts in Communications with an emphasis in Photography.  I currently work as the Career Guidance Specialist and Co-Coordinator of the Scholarship Program at Cathedral City High School.  I am also currently working on my teaching credential at Chapman University.

“My artistic influences include that of Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, and Helmut Newton.”

Horse Hair & Feathers

Ceramic

Nan Burlingame – Cathedral City High School, Ceramics

SOLD!

“I am a practicing artist and art teacher and have taught ceramics at Cathedral City High School since 1991. My work is strongly influenced by the balance between nature and man. Horse hair application to ceramics originates from Indian pottery. My use of materials and how they are applied convey a sense of rhythm and lines found in nature.  The ceramic piece is removed from the kiln at 1650° and horse hair is applied to the piece.  It results in a carbon burn on the piece.  A tile sealant is applied to enhance the original burnish to the piece.”

Paper Doll

Acrylic & Pen on Paper (11” x 14”), framed

Louisa Castrodale – PSUSD, Visual & Performing Arts Specialist

$250

“I have a degree in design, and got my start in the art world, but fell in love with teaching, and never looked back. I teach because I feel that I have been lucky in achieving so many things I never thought possible, and now I want to devote myself to enabling the dreams of others.  I don’t have a favorite artist, but I get excited about art with a message, and artists who use their medium to affect change in the world.

“As a woman, I like to paint from my experience and what I know.  So often, women think and feel many things that they keep to themselves because they’ve been raised not to share out…too vulnerable, not appropriate, etc.  I like to paint images that are visually arresting, but then add an element of text that is pointed or humorous.  When I see another woman look at my work and get a big smile on her face, I know she gets ‘it’, that she has seen my message, without me ever saying a word!”

No Lo Digas

Mixed Media on Wood (32” x 80”)

Andrea J Martinez – Sunny Sands Elementary, 3rd Grade

$2,000

“The compositions I create are random and interconnected environments that intend to nurture and become homes for the figures. In my efforts to create totality in the environments I become distracted by the medium and begin to apply layers of light, textures, and shapes. Set against the chalky pink and yellow backgrounds, vibrating orange splashes are offset by my contradictory suggestions of decorative florals and bubbly figures.  The figures are comical and cartoon like renderings that are transformed into "Snoopy" inspired forms. These vessel and pod like figures along with drippings and radiant candy colors serve to evoke a hurried and anxious feminine satire.  In this intimate language, I explore these themes using images that evoke humor and vulnerability.”

Joffrey

Acrylic on Canvas (48” x 48”)

“For several months I photographed young ballet dancers who were training for professional dance.  This piece was inspired by a dancer who was preparing to audition for the Joffrey ballet in New York.”

Untitled

Double-exposure Photograph (16” x 20”)

Helen Pembrook – St Theresa Catholic School, Bookkeeper

$400

“My mother is an artist and so I spent all of my childhood drawing and creating. As a child I won many awards at the local fair for my artwork. I studied art in college but due to hard times had to get a ‘real job’ and put my art aside. When our second child reached a year old I picked up a camera and began exploration into the photographic arts, finding a passion for the challenge of double exposure photography. Georgia O'Keeffe played a huge role in my inspiration for my first set of double exposure imagery, superimposing a deer skull over a flower on a single piece of film. I have also been greatly inspired by all of the roadside memorials and have tried to capture them in a reverent way.”
